Health Informatics & Information Management professionals collect, integrate, and analyze primary and secondary health care data, disseminate information, and manage information resources related to the research, planning, provision, and evaluation of health care services.


The mission of the Department of Health Informatics & Information Management (HIIM) is to provide a strong foundation of health informatics & information management to our students, community, and industry by striving for excellence in teaching, research, and service.


The Department of Health Informatics & Information Management (HIIM) administers two programs: Both the Bachelor's in Health Informatics & Information Management (HIIM), and the exclusively online Masters in Health Informatics (MHI) are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics & Health Information Management Education (CAHIIM). A progression program is also offered from HIT to HIA.


A student eligible for admission to the University is eligible for admission to both MHI and HIIM programs. Applicants for readmission and transfer students must meet criteria at the time of application. A student who has been suspended from either program is not eligible for readmission.

Bachelor Degree [HIIM]

The baccalaureate degree curriculum emphasizes the development of skills for the management of health-related information and the systems used to collect, store, retrieve, disseminate and communicate information for the support of enterprise operations and clinical and business decision making in healthcare or related organizations.

Master's Degree [MHI]

The program is designed for individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Applicants who have not completed a bachelor's degree in health information administration may be required to register for additional courses. The type of additional course work will be determined after evaluation of transcripts and work experience. The Master's degree in Health Informatics does not lead to Registered Health Information Administrator credential (RHIA).
