All Online Degrees in Health Informatics and Information Management
Louisiana Tech now has two degrees that can be completed entirely online! Both the Health Informatics and Information Management [HIIM] as well as the Master’s degree in Health Informatics (MHI) can be completed online. Listed below are several common questions, along with their answers.
How does this type of education work?
Basically, students will retrieve information through the moodle Course Management System which is accessed over the Internet. Through this system, students can download syllabi, assignments and Power Point presentations. They can communicate with other students and their instructor via the discussion board. The department also uses Tegrity campus lecture capture solution to stream recorded lectures to the students.
How do I take exams?
Online students can be tested using several formats. Instructors can administer timed exams through Moodle. In order to ensure the integrity of our program, we also require that students take exams that are proctored. Students will be assigned a proctor in their geographic area. The student is then required to meet with the proctor to complete exams. The proctor will administer the exam and will then send the student's exam to Louisiana Tech for grading.
What type of Internet connection do I need?
A broadband connection, such as cable, DSL, or satellite. A dial-up connection is not acceptable.
How do I communicate with my instructor?
You will discuss course issues with your instructor via e-mail, the discussion board and/or the telephone.
Will all of the classes be online?
Yes, all of the HIIM classes as well as general education requirements and all of the other classes required in the program.
